Yes, this line would have to be removed: "provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being."

There are app. 7 states that have a clause similar to the one you present here. Though in today's enviroment it seems odd, it does make it very clear that at the time of each of the states Constitutional Conventions and ratification processes that followed, the value of a belief in God was very high on the minds of these Americans. Not a bad thing, I might add.
