Are both Republicans and Democrats guilty of some comparison to the "Big Brother" in the George Orwell classic "1984"?

When any administration equates their survival equal to the survival of the Republic, then a 'clear and present danger' equates to 'an ambiguous threat on the horizon'.

If you (or anyone) is interested in learning more about how a noble republic is transformed into an Imperial Power, check out this set of youtube videos that I have posted on my blog.

It's long, and broken into four shorter clips. Produced by BBC, and very comprehensive in it's criticisms of both American political parties over the last 50 years.

The Orwell novel focused on the domestic aspects of a paternal government, while this production focuses on a larger perspective, integrates both, and presents them in an unbiased manner. It is quite an indictment, of both national parties. Wire tapping, and other violations of individual rights, and freedom are but symptoms of a larger issue; totalitarianism.

No!

Republicans are not wiretapping anyone anywhere for any reason. And, it's not Republicans that are wiretapping. The office of the president gave permission to the CIA to wiretap suspected terrorists.

The Democrats do not wish a nanny state, they wish to take control of the population's Independence and impose the government's control on it's citizens because the Democratic party is comprised of people who don't respect their fellow citizens and believe that they are not intelligent enough to make their own decisions. This is an elitist viewpoint that comes from a group of people who think they are smarter than the general population and will lead to a ruling class system in this country if they are allowed to impose their views on the country unchecked.

No. It is doubleplusungoodthink to consider either Republicans or Democrats "guilty" of anything. If you crimestop yourself, you'll unbellyfeel such crimethink before the thinkpol arrive. The fact that both George Bush and Al Gore won the 2000 election and that both George Bush and John Kerry won the 2004 election indicates that when people say "I love Big Brother," they are referring to both Republicans and Democrats equally and simultaneously, in full accord with doublethink, which makes it doubleplusgoodthink.

Many presidents have used wiretapping including Clinton during nonwar times. Both parties have done things that they probably shouldn't have but wiretapping has always been used during battles.

Absolutely. The underlying crime they are guilty of is the power-grab at any expense. Those in power now serve no purpose other than trying to increase their own personal influence. Boot them all out and start over. Revolt!
