Because it costs so darn much! If I could afford to pay approx $1000. a month, just so i could go to the doc once or twice a year is just a tad too much. It would be half what I make, & the rest has to go to housing, because they are allowed to charge what they want. So, I live in nothing!!

Because they cant afford health care. Health insurance made its biggest push to get people insured in the 50s and 60s when health care was rather inexpensive( ask any baby boomer what his parents paid to doctors at that time). Then insurance asked you to pay them for the privilege to pay your doctor and it would cost you less per month then you were paying the doctor. But the scam was most folks at that time rarely went to their doctors, maybe every 6 months to a year so insurance companies were making a fortune. 4X or more per year. Doctors increased their prices to get more of the action. It has snowballed since then..
How many Doctors or Dentists live in the same block that you do....The did in the 60s..

One word answer...
greed.
Not just Republican or Democrat, but rather those that believe that profit trumps compassion.
Insurance companies are all about gaming risks vs. pay off.
The money that we give to insurance companies, who pay share holders and have a huge administration cost, could go into a national health care system (oooh, I know it sounds like Socialism. Boo!). Insurance companies pump money into both Democratic and Republican politicians.
Health care is a huge money maker for insurers. If we denied this to the insurance companies then they would loose huge profits. They don't want that so it makes sense for them to keep health care in the "shop for it yourself" realm. That's why so much money from the insurance industry, and drug companies also as a matter of fact, is spent lobbying "our representatives".
It's all about money and who gets to keep it. It's also about who has to spend it.
The thinking is that it is better that we as health care users, spend our money, than they, as insurers, give up profit.
We have no health care as citizens. Our schools are being undermined through lack of funding, our ability to produce and earn as a nation is being "out sourced", while we spend thousand of dollars per second on military adventures.
Usually for the profit of someone that has no need for money because they have an obscene amount already.
The acquisition of health care is only one sad aspect of what we are now, as Americans, supposed to use our own natural ability as Americans to rise above and excel at.

Because its too expensive. In NY I have been told I either make to much or too little. They want almost 150 dollars a month and thats not full coverage its basic. I was told to get the cheapper to nothing health coverage I have to make less then 800 a month. They dont care if you have rent, utilities, car (gas and repaires and insurance) Food. I going to canada to have my babies citizens get free health coverage. Its easier to become a USA citizen then canada. My dad died in april and they sent us the bill even though he had health coverage and they charge to do CPR. Its extremly expensive for them to try and bring you back (your better off dead)

Easy. It's too expensive. You can only stretch the money so far when everything is getting more expensive.
If income isn't going up then stuff like healthcare gets cut out in favor of housing, utilities, and food. But it all gets cut to death.
If people had money to invest then they could plan for tough times. We live in an ever increasing unstable world. It's not good for our children. It's not good for us of course.
People are having a tough time selling their houses.
It's all interconnected. It shouldn't be a difficult concept to comprehend. I wish more people would realize that they don't know it all. Question your beliefs and assumptions. Are they true? Keep doing it. Realize that you could be wrong. What a concept. You don't have all the answers and you never will. (not you personally, the general you)

Being one of them it's because I can't afford it...
Note: BushStoleMyDentures I'm not to stupid to get a job with a company that offers health insurance. I live in rural Arizona where any kind of work is hard to come by and most companies are small. Don't forget not everyone lives (or wants to live) in or near a city where there may be better benefits. That's not the point. Medicine should not be run for profit...

Employer-based coverage is often unavailable or unaffordable. Most people under age 65 who have health insurance are covered by insurance from their employer or that of a family member. Uninsured people who have jobs may face one or more of the following barriers:
* Smaller employers are less likely to offer health insurance to their employees because premiums are prohibitively expensive. I
* Service and labor jobs are less likely to provide workers with health insurance. About 63 percent of uninsured workers hold service and labor jobs, although these jobs only make up about 40 percent of the workforce.
* Part-time workers are often not eligible for insurance.
* Even when employers offer health insurance to low-wage workers, the premiums tend to be higher than for higher-paid workers. Low-wage workers have a harder time affording these premiums and are more likely to remain uninsured.
People who lose their jobs often lose their health insurance.
* Nationwide, for every 100 people who become unemployed, 85 people, including family members, lose their health insurance. Increases in unemployment since 2001 have contributed to growth in the number of uninsured.

Health insurance is a bill like anything else, such as rent, gas, etc. This must be budgeted into your financial matters. If you can not afford health coverage, you need to adjust your budget. Get rid of uneeded things such as cell phones, broadband, cable TV, etc. This will more then free up the cash for health insurance. Or else you could look for another source of income, such as a second or third job to afford health insurance.
