I'm debating on taking Bart to the Hanna Montana concert so I don't have to bother with driving in traffic and deal with parking but I am concerned with how far away the walk is and how well the lighting is around the walking area.I'm taking my 5 year old keep in mind and I know Oakland has a serious crime rate.Do they have extra security on the streets for these kind of events?

Oracle Arena is right next to the coliseum where the a's and raiders play. You will take bart to the Coliseum station. Walkover the raised bridge, which is usually teaming with security people during any event at both the coliseum and the arena, You will have to walk around the baseball/football stadium to get to the arena on the other side. but shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes depending on how fast you walk.
You will never walk on the street at all, unless you count the parking lot at the arena. You will be fine. Just be smart, don't talk to weird strangers, their will be scalpers (maybe...it is hannah montana) on the walkway.
BART is the absolute best way to get to any event happening at oracle or the coliseum.

The Coliseum BART station is not that far from the Arena. Perhaps 1/2 mile. You walk down a well-light overpass that is well-policed. The Sheriff took over most security at the stadium. Despite being in a bad area, the stadium itself is pretty much like an island. Pretty well secure and has a much lower crime rate than the city as a whole.
Hanna Montana? What happened to real music?

You do not need to walk on a street to get from BART to the ORACLE.

Although I can't help you with the crime rate stats for Oakland, I did find the directions for you. If you take the highway your trip is 6.7 miles and would take 12 minutes to drive. Might be a bit far to walk!
