Have the laws changed as of yet for driving into the U.S. I know that it would be ideal to have a passport but can we still cross using photo id and our birth certificate? I am planning a trip to buffalo and some of the girls don't have their passports. Thanks for you help in advance!

All adults crossing the border will need passports

A Canadian may make a land crossing at the border with a Birth Certificate. Sometime in 2008 the requirement for a passport will come into effect. That is, unless the border Premiers and Governors impress the U.S. administration that this requirement will create a great deal of disruption in trade and tourism so that the requirement is recinded.

A birth certificate and picture ID are still OK for crossing into Canada by car. If you travel to Canada by boat or air, you'll need a passport, and the word is you'll need a passport to go to Canada by car beginning January 1, 2008 (but don't be surprised if they push that date back).

Are you travelling from Canada? No I just went their this past Sept. I didnt have my passport, I think that is only for flying, and it will be next year when they change it.

No, you don't...yet. Fly in or sail in, yes, you do.

Go to the US Department of Homeland Security Website. They will provide you with all the information you will ever need on this topic.
