CATALYTIC converter.
Illegal to remove/bypass/tamper with in the US.
There is a slight pressure drop through the converter which correlates to very slightly lower performance. Fuel use shouldn't be any different.
The catalytic converter's job is to convert any unburned or partially burned fuel to carbon dioxide and water. It is a pollution control device. One car without one is equivalent to ~30-40 running with them from a pollution point of view! Please leave it in-line.
good luck!

A catalytic converter chokes the engine and lead to higher fuel use. Back in the 80's when the Yanks started to insist that these devices were fitted a Mercedes 350 sports car needed a 4.5 litre engine to produce the same power as the European 3 litre. So fitting a straight through exhaust should help with the flow and thus economy.

This is a really interesting question. To increase the performance of any car you try to make the exhaust gas flow as quickly and as easily as possible out of the exhaust. A catalytic converter causes a huge back restriction to the gas flow, so even if it does not increase the fuel rate then it will reduce performance.
Humans are in some ways simple creatures and as such if you want to go faster you will press the gas peddle harder, as a result of the performance fall off from the cat you will then need to press even harder on the peddle than you would if the cat was not there.
So in that respect YES it does increase fuel use but not directly.

the engine management system is set up for a catalyst. If it's a simple system removing the cat will make very little difference. If it's complex system with a sensor both before and after the cat then it will probably become undrivable. In either case expect MOT failure

Not directly, but yes...
the catalytic converter helps to make carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide, but it causes back pressure as it builds up with crud....
removing it is illegal in some places (E-check), if it's clogged, removing it will improve power/mileage...

well that is a good question..
it does restrict exhaust flow..so it will reduce efficacy..
under normal driving conditions , if it is not clogged up,
i don't think it would affect mileage..
but in a hi performance application it definitely would hurt power and there by hurt your mileage

A catylitic convertor reduces emissions and should not be removed. Here it would be illegal to run without one.

in theory maybe a little,,,in real life not so you would notice...and without it more pollution,,,illegal in many places......not worth doing..
