Is it illegal for a job to call you and tell you that you got a negative feedback? The lady that called me and said that the corporate office told her that they did a background check and said there was a negative feedback.

No. If they're paying you, they have every right to bring your mistakes to your attention so you can improve. Call me crazy, but I'd want to know if I was doing something wrong.. Informing you of a negative feedback so you have a chance to improve is by far better than firing you, isnt it?

Job negative feedback illegal? - No. If the negative feedback came from a "background" check it could be a criminal conviction or arrest you did not disclose or it could be a bad reference.

While some employers have been sued for giving bad references, it is not illegal and the law suits claimed the previous employer slandered the person. If the information they provide is truthful and verifiable they would probably prevail in a law suit.

I as an employer can only say that the person either quit his or her job or that they were fired. I cannot go into details. I live in California so it may be different for other states
Getting a background check is totally different and anyone can do it. It could even mean that they checked your credit score many big company's are doing this and won't hire any one with bad credit. Could even be a police record that they came across.

It is illegal for a previous employer to give a negative reference if unjustified. If it means enough to you I would say get a lawyer.
