I don't really know myself but my boyfreind's dad is always talking about how the cold war never ended and we have to watch out for Russia and all that.

I would not call this cold war. It may escalate to something else but it won't be in the same nature and rhetoric as the cold war decades ago. Bush is the party here which seems to want to escalate it. Putin has said some rather disturbing and correct statements about Bush. Bush really has gone ignorant of the world and gung-ho on his war adventures in the Muslim World. Did you even hear his rhetoric about WWIII which strategists and politicians know was aimed at Russia? I do believe something has started and will escalate. We have encroached into enough territories around the world. We have over 700 bases in 150 countries. Our government's efforts to place a missle sight in Europe next to Russia is just another strategic goal to fully encircle the globe within our reach and Russia will not have this, no matter what cheap dimplomatic excuse our government gives to them and the world. Iran is not a threat to Europe and everyone know is. The fiery and accusatory rhetoric by Bush and company have nothing but serve to expose the evil smearing campaigns and war mongering goals of the Bush government.

The cold war as we knew it is over. That was post World War 2, Soviet Union versus USA, Europe and G. Britain. Of course Russia doesn't want US weapons in their backyard. Would the US want Russian ones? Russia and China are anti the brinkmanship that is taking place between Iran, the US and the UK. They don't want an Iraq situation in their backyard either. There are more reasons than this of course.

Putin has re-started the cold war in an effort to assert some kind of Russian influence in the world. Once they were relegated to third world status they got ticked and decided to go the old "whatever USA says is good, Russia says is bad" route. Sad but true.
