I didn't get my first ultrasound until 16 weeks. We were told that, before that, there's only a very small chance of actually seeing the embryo and so it wasn't worth getting done till 16 weeks. So don't worry, not strange at all.

I really think you should talk to your doctor and make sure that he has dated you correctly.
The reason I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks is because I really did not know the date of my last period and they were really wanted to date my pregnancy.
I ended up having my ultrasound at 8 weeks 2 days.IT was very clear. My baby looked like a little gummy bear with arm and leg stubs. So cute! It was a vaginal ultrasound and to be honest, the baby is about the size of a gummy bear....this is how my dob described the size. There is a heartbeat at this time period, so yes, it's good you heard the heartbeat.
I am not sure why he couldn't see it though. If it was not a vaginal ultrasound, that might be the reason. This early a vaginal ultrasound is necessary in most cases to really be able to see the baby.
Sometimes it is hiding and doesn't want to be seen?
It is ok, as long as you heard the heartbeat, you are good. Do not worry.
Best of Luck to You!

Its so great to see so many people offer support to each other, what a great site. We have an Ultra sound scheduled for today, its our 18 week one but I did have one at 8 weeks. All they could really see was the heart beat also as the baby was so small and I often hear two heart beats as well and the doc has said one is mine, but who knows ?
Best wishes

If you had an abdominal ultrasound, it wouldn't be terribly unusual for the baby to be difficult to find. If you heard the heartbeat, baby's there and healthy - congrats!
Several issues can contribute to ultrasound difficulty. One is an anterior placenta - where the placenta is on the front part of the uterus, so baby is hiding behind it. Another would be a bicornate uterus where the uterus is sort of heart shaped and baby is hiding in one of the "alcoves" away from where the ultrasound can see it.
If you need reassurance, you can always ask your OB for a transvaginal ultrasound, which is more accurate at finding baby at this early stage.

Did they do an vaginal ultrasound?
You're probably not 8 weeks yet, and they just couldnt find the baby.
My first ultrasound was at 8 weeks, and they had to spend about an hour trying to locate him. They could only do it with the wand and not the external machine.

So totally normal. Don't stress a heart beat is awesome. They had a hard time finding my son at my first ultrasound. Everything is positional so if your baby is "hiding" they won't be able to find him/her. Good luck at your next ultrasound!! Hopefully baby will be out and about and easy to spot!

Sometimes they need a special scope to see a embryo under 12 weeks. It is inserted into the vagina to get the best view. If that is not what they used, i wouldn't be too concerned. The heartbeat is the best indicator. Best wishes

At this point of time, the baby is just a speck on the monitor, but they should have been able to point out that speck of a baby on the monitor. Rest easy...you heard the heart beat, so the baby is very much there!

Did you have a transvaginal u/s or one on your belly?
I had a transvaginal one and could see the baby and the heartbeat. But didn't hear it. That was at 6 weeks.(just yesterday).
I have heard of the baby not being found as late as 10 weeks along.

My docot often supplies them approximately 18-20 weeks. it genuinely relies upon on the coverage and surgeon. some women have them formerly for various reasons. I actually are starting to be them finished early on 2 diverse activities, the two, I wasn't one hundred% particular of my final LMP. and then on the 2nd being pregnant, i had a difficulty the place i grow to be shifting foreign places and grow to be undecided whilst i could have the capability to make certain a doctor back, so the did on, which i presumed grow to be 7 weeks pregnant, basically to make certain i grow to be 6 weeks alongside. They had to make particular each little thing regarded positive. additionally, a pal of mine is notably much 40 and had to get pregnant in vitro, seeing as she is intense hazard, she gets ultrasounds somewhat normally. whilst that's exciting to make certain your toddler starting to be, the faster you're, the less you will see. So don't be too upset in case you will possibly desire to attend til you're 18 weeks alongside.
