I have found that I learn better from what I call "SECOND SOURCE". Books that do not get into the computer jargon. You just naturally pick up the jargon as you go along.
Windows XP for dummies is a good starter. Another publisher that is good is Que, Que is good in that it is illustrated well with examples.

well to be honest theirs a guide called The gamers guide to windows Turn your pc into a gaming rig but its much more than that it tells you how to make your comp Run Alot Faster and the right anti-virus programs to use the book also comes in a magazine if u buy it from the bookstore but im shore u can buy it separately and the magazine is called Pc gaming you can get it for $14.00 at Barnes and noble and it comes with a magazine and a little booklet that explains simply on how to fix your pc and make it run a million times faster

The dummy's books, they have them in any book store. Best way to learn is just get on your computer and play around with it. Just don't delete anything.

IMHO, this one's the Best in Canada!!! Take the time to "Flip through the example pages".
It's my favourite Xmas gift for beginners.
