Smoking will not completely stop a bone from healing, but smoking slows the healing process. It does so by replacing oxygen in the bloodstream which inhibits healing.

I smoked through my broken wrist and Doctors were actually very pleased with the way it healed, I am now in my 4th week out of plaster and things are looking up, they say smokers will be unhappy with the results but I am more than happy with the healing of my wrist.
I think it just depends on the person, but smoking will not mean your bone wont heal but there is a chance that it wont heal as well as it would in a non smoker, that is what I know, from a personal point of view I think doctors use every opportunity to tell you not to smoke, one of my doctors actually told me I can smoke if I MUST!
The choice is yours I dont think you have anything to worry about based on personal experience but I am not a doctor.

I don't know, but I smoke and had a horrible compound tib/fib fracture, but they pieced me back together with a titanium rod and screws.
Smoking poisons the blood, constricts blood vessels, depletes the lungs and blood of oxygen, and is just all around bad, but I don't think it hindered my bone regrowth.
I <3 Titanium!!!

It can certainly help. There are other factors for healing.
