lol... O dear I didnt think I would offend anyone by calling them hun, or babes another of my favourate sayings....Sorry!

I just use this loads on here, and on my Multiply site (since 360 dont want us now), I always saw it as a nice touch, would hate to offend anyone. I wouldnt use the expression in a formal setting or in work to a client...although to my freinds and close work collegues I do call them hun or babes!

In an informal setting, e.g. the cashier at a gas station, shop assistant, etc. where I don't know the person's name, I usually call them love. If I say "Excuse me Miss" I have had the response 'I am not a Miss, I am married'. If I use "love" it is not sexual or intended to be anything other than a non-specific salutation.

To: evasive eyes - your name is fine but if I don't know it is Nikki and I want to be pleasant, I may call you "love".

I did make a mistake once when I came up behind someone and said "excuse me love" and when the person turned round HE had a moustache and a little goatee beard, well he was wearing a trouser suit and had long, beatifully coiffured blond hair!

It definetly depends on the person like you like it when Maria says hun but others probably dont... i do sometimes but it depends on the type of conversation....

Depends how and when it used most of the time its fine and I take it in an affectionate way but sometimes it can be used to patronise people which isnt nice and immediately annoys me.

it huffs me off more if a man calls me.
babe, darling, honey, love.
if a woman called me hun or love,
i suppose i'd feel a bit patronised but it's hardly worth getting all up-tight about.
folks up North, invade one anothers' personal space, refer to one another as love, male or female
& no-one bats an eye-lid!
guess you caught her on a bad day.
shrug your shoulders & take a deep sigh.
you can't please everybody.
