The end result looks overwhelming at the start...especially a first start. Get hold of The Marshall Plan for Novel Writing (if it's a novel) and take it step by step. I just completed my first with this help. Hey, we're all basically lazy. But there's something inside that needs to be shared, both for our benefit and the benefit of others.
