80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

In the beginning there was God.
God existed before all this even began. The only thing that matters is God.
The meaning of life is to walk with God because he is Existence and life itself.
We cannot live without the life that God gives us.
Hell is apartness from God.
Many people are in hell because they are far from God.
I have been in hell myself at times until i realized the only thing that matters that is God.
THE MEANING OF LIFE=
1. WALK WITH GOD
2. FIND SALVATION
Perhaps you don't understand what I mean at this time. But if the time ever comes that you do, then that is when you have found the answer.

Yogesh,
Unfortunately our Indian curriculum do not teach these things much, unless you take a course in Indian Philosophy.
all these things are understood and explained in the Vedas, Upanishads Samhitas, Srutis, and Smritis, perhaps in the best manner any one can ever conceive of.
For a short cut, go to the Bhagavad Gita.
Iindia is never short of Acharyas, find one in your locality.
For a still simpler version, go to the Buddha.
He speaks of the four noble truths and the eight fold path.

Read some philosophical, religious or scientific texts on the matter. It's way too complicated to explain here, and i doubt anyone really knows...
But then, what YOU find meaningful is what the meaning of your life is. If you get what i mean. And everything has a life span, right? Well, so do we.

life has no meaning, it is up to you to find a meaning. why do you wake up in the morning? why do you work 8 hours a day? why do you have to study? why do you have to do thing that you have to do? do you really have to do them? it is up to you to answer this questions.
you have to wake up early to work, you have to work to earn money, you have to earn money to eat, you have to eat to survive. otherwise just lay down on your bed dont get up an die... you will have to decide and give a meaning to your life.
people die exactly because they are alive... how can something not living die? life is not the absence of death but rather death is the absence of life. we humans are made up of flesh, blood and bones which happen to be very weak against the passage of time, we are only given an insubstantial amount time and in that insubstantial amount of time we must find some substance which would make our meaningless life a meaningful one, fail to do so and it would make you life and death meaningless..

The meaning of one's existence is illumined in the fulfillment of the purpose of one's human nature in accord with virtue. That life culiminates in death is characteristic of a finite nature.

I agree with the answerer just above me.
Without God there is no purpose, no meaning, no point to life.
It is the Christian idea that God created us and offers us the possibility to be His sons and daughters. Seeking God is our way of accepting His offer. Christians think that we seek God by obeying His command to love our neighbor for where love is, there God is also.
