No, not really. Even though the media and commercialism are promoting Americans to become even MORE egocentric, and that they are succeeding in many ways, there is still hope.
Not much, but some.
I think that a lot of the hope comes from high school teachers. My English teacher was amazing, and made us be more informed about current events, and to develop opinions of our own. She taught us that there is a lot more to life than looking pretty, or having lots of "stuff."
Also, I think part of the problem is that parents are pursuing dreams and more stuff, rather than doing their actual job--being a parent! Teaching their children...by buying more and more stuff, parents are teaching their children the wrong thing.
The movies may be getting more sleazy, teenagers seem to be getting more careless and snotty, everything seems to be going down the drain fast.
But if we could just get more people to care and to be informed, I think we'll be alright.
If we don't...
I don't even want to think about what might happen.

(I'm answering under the assumption you're speaking of the US)
I think "in jeopardy" is too weak a term for the state it's in.
Honour is most definitely a rare commodity these days. Most have no comprehension of what it even is. A man's word used to be worth something but these days, especially amongst politicians, it's meaningless.
Respect also has gone by the wayside... and you can tell just reading what is written about the President on here... how he is blamed for everything in the world and put down constantly... no matter who the President is, they are worthy of respect. Period. Generals who are decorated war heroes who deliver you a report you asked for deserve respect... period. That STILL applies even if the report is not what you wanted to hear.
We have protesters picketing at soldiers' funerals... talk about a lack of honour, respect AND patriotism!
If you'd like to see a humourous commentary on this condition, see Hugh Jackman in "Kate and Leopold". He plays a true 'gentleman' who is transported through time to modern day NYC and spends a short time there... it's well worth seeing just to marvel at how we've lost our values and social graces.
The only thing we can do to save these values is teach them to our children and hope it trickles down. GREAT question!

The younger generation hasn't had many people to look up to lately, for sure.
Even the leadership of our country is full of immorality, cheating, lies, deceit, corruption, etc.
What incentive is there for young people to be good, law abiding and empathetic citizens when the President and his government are corrupt beyond belief?
The "sports heros" are all bangers and drug users who can barely speak English and have the morals of a rabbit.
The kids have no one to "look up to"....even their parents are self-serving, greedy people who don't spend time with their kids, who use TV, computers and "things" as babysitters. The children are not taught "right" from "wrong" but are left to their own devices.
They are given no parameters....no controls at all but are left to do what they want.
Children do not have the mental, emotional or psychological capabilities to make good decisions. That's what parents are for - and the parents aren't teaching them.

I fear it is so also.
I really hate sounding like an old person who complains about modern times but I really do see honesty and respect disappearing.
For example, littering...we were taught not to litter. Keep America Beautiful remember...but it seems that people just dont care anymore.
There are lots of examples.
I do feel that it is up to each of us to try to change this pattern. By being vocal about whats right without being preachy...we can say things in a manner that will reinforce respect but get the point across. It's an uphill battle but who better than Americans who have fought uphill battles from the start.
I am not giving up!

Yes I do. It is the parents responsibility to instill these values in their children. I have 2 kids and I have taught them to stand when the flag is passing. I find that most adults take things for granted too. My kids know to remove their hat as the vets pass with the flag but most of the adults didn't. I think most people in general take for granted the country that we live in. I twill be a shame when the kids grow up and try to run business if morals are not taught at home.

No.
People have been saying this for hundreds of years. People always think the whole world is going to hell, and it never is. Values are changing, of course, but things like individualism, creativity, and appreciation of multiple ideas and cultures are now more common. People are smarter, they're living longer, and crime (regardless of what media fearmongers try to tell you) is lower than it was in any other generation. I think this is the best time in history to be alive.

Not vanishing at all. They are merely based on different things now. Respect should be EARNED for examle not just freely given because someone is old. Is there honor in just shutting up and doing as "God and Country" told you to? God and Country has oft proved corrupt. And as to patriotsm... most young folks I know are VERY patriotic... so ... youre just wrong in your assumptions.

There are so many people in the US now. Not everyone has "good" values, but there are more honorable people than you think. It's just that bad people get more attention.

It's virtually GONE. All you have to do is watch any of the following for confirmation:
1. MTV
2. A Democrat debate
3. C-SPAN coverage of Congress
But, at least we know from history that whenever a Republic reaches this point, it's on the verge of collapsing and falling apart. Grab your guns folks, the end is coming.
