Are you familiar with American geography?

Capturing New Orleans led to the Union taking partial control of the Mississippi River. Once Vicksburg fell, then the Union had more or less taken control of the Mississippi River.

Of the choices, New Orleans, but that would not be accurate. The Mississippi remained unconquered until the fall of Vicksburg on July 4, 1863.

Read Bruce Catton, "This Hallowed Ground." Best book on the Civil War ever written.

In Mississippi Studies, it was Vicksburg. Of course, New Orleans would help a lot, too.
