I would love to go "trick-or-treating", but unfortunately my neighbors would probably think I'm nuts! I do really enjoy figuring out what to wear and donning a really cool costume. My younger sister went in her neighborhood and she's 18 yrs old (but she's a small girl at 5'1 and could pass for younger). Halloween isn't a fake holiday. It has roots to England, Ireland and Scottish traditions. Halloween was known as Samhain and is originally a Pagan holiday. It was to celebrate the end of the growing season, the harvest and 'All Saints Day'. It was believed that on Halloween it was the one day of the year that the world of the dead and the world of the living crossed. The reason for costumes of ghosts and ghouls was to blend in with the living dead that might be walking the earth on that day. The tradition of 'trick or treating' was because the local kids would go around collecting fruits, small cakes, nuts and other treats from their neighbors for the celebration of 'All Saints day' and Samhain in trade for some entertainment (dancing or singing).
