I heard one conservative argue that not saying the "Lord's Prayer" in school was due to the liberal bias in our education system. Apparently, our school system is full of bias from College profs down to Kindergarten.

Is it bias to tell one religious group that they can't monopolize an education system? I know it sounds like a sooapbox, but I wonder, please tell me where I'm missing the point by assuming that religion and spirituality should be taught at home?

In this case, "liberal bias" is a fantasy in the mind of a religious nut. The "Lord's Prayer" is not allowed in school because the founders of the United States knew that a state sponsored religion was immoral and at odds with democratic principles. Of course, the founders of the US were liberals, democracy itself is a liberal concept, it stands to reason that the US Constitution would have a liberal bias. After all, it promotes liberal ideas such as freedom, democracy, and limited governmental interference in the lives of citizens.

If you look at human interaction, everything has a bias. Everyone approaches another human with certain assumptions about them even before they've met. As unbiased as a teacher may try to be, personal opinions and beliefs do come out. The trick is to say "This is my opinion" or "this is what some people think" so the kid understands multiple perspectives. There are facts that can be taught as fact, of course. Parents should look over their kids' books and curriculum if they're all that concerned. In my opinion, religion and politics should stay out of the classroom. No one should be made to feel uncomfortable for having an opinion or belief system. But then again, a kid should be able to say grace quietly at lunch if they want. I think we need some basic respect and more intelligent debate. My point is: We don't all have to agree. But give my child the facts and encourage them to develop their own opinions, please.

Anything that has a factual basis.

The Cons/Reps blame everything that they don't like on Liberals. So if a Republican gets caught soliciting HJ's in an airport bathroom, the Cons/Reps will blame liberals for targeting a pervert. If Bush gets caught lying again, they will blame the liberals for targeting Bush. If science dis-proves religion or proves humans are most likely responsible for our climate change, they'll blame liberals instead of actually viewing the research. If California catches on fire, they will blame liberals. This is lunacy we deal with in this country. It's time to rid our country of this ignorance get back on track. Don't you notice how all of Conservative pundits and shows are all referred to as nut jobs and morons. These people are the minority for a very a good reason.

It's non existent, it's a contrived issue to make you think the republicans are underdogs and the world is against them, they've taken the center of American thought and tried to change it's meaning, don't buy the hype, there is no right to the lord's prayer in the constitution quite the opposite, this is the land of religious freedom, if they want their kids to say the Lords prayer to start the day there's nothing stopping them from taking a moment BEFORE class starts to d so, why does my kids have to start their day with it? Or the Jewish Kid, or the Muslim Kid or the Buddhists kid, it' all hogwash

We have two issues here, the ghost of liberal bias, that conservatives see when they hear the newsmedia report FACTS that are inconvenient to their arguments. Arguments such as "The Iraq War was a good Idea". Now the facts have shown that the Iraq war was a terrible idea but conservatives call these facts "liberal bias."

The second issue is the christian persecution complex. Christians have all the power and every politician in washington except for a small handfull, and they still claim to be persecuted. I think it diminishes the story of when Christians really were persecuted.

A term made up by conservatives that use petty name calling akin to a school kid calling names.
There is a requirement of separation of church and state. If you want to pray at school, do it quietly without disturbing others, or go to a parochial school, or church. School is for educating not for religion.

Ah, you have discovered one of the most common tricks of the conservative right. "Liberal bias" is a scapegoat conservatives use when the Constitution clashes with their theocratic beliefs. It's safer for them to blame "liberal bias" because placing the blame on the Constitution, where it belongs (see the First Amendment), will only demonstrate how radical and un-American they are.

"Liberal bias" is favoring liberty and justice for ALL over liberty and justice for only a chosen few. The Constitution codified this liberal bias. Conservatives are constantly trying to roll back the hands of time against this noble notion.

It's common sense. Public schools are just that, public. All races and cultures are welcome. Christianity is just one religion and all others should be respected. If you want your kids to have a (Insert Religion Here) education then send them to a private school that caters to your preference..
