i keep putting the default gateway in the web address but a screen pops up and says u need a pass and username. i dont know it.

I bet you tried to enter your ISP's IP. The gateway (router) IP looks something like: 192.168.X.1 where X is likely a 0, 1 or 2.
Read The Friendly Manual (RTFM) for your SpeedStream and follow ALL the installation instructions and “How To's” to the letter.
Still Stuck? Call the manufacturer for tech support.
Then, call your ISP, that's what they do.

If you haven't already changed the default login for the router try entering "admin" for both username and password fields. If that doesn't work, I suggest you consider resetting the router.
