This is the time of year I would hope that people think of those less fortunate, or think of making a donation to Sick Kids Hospitals and to charities which look for cures to all these horrible diseases out there.

I really hope that people think about what they can do in their schools, in their workplaces and as individuals to do something nice for humanity this season.

As a mother who's child was touched with cancer, you cannot begin to imagine what it's like--you think you can, I thought I did too, but you dont until you're there , and I hope and pray you never find out.

If you came to know these children you could never walk away. They do not deserve that.

Whatever the charity please give, as so many people are in need of food, shelter and certain we need to cure these children and support these families and their siblings too.

I just wanted to know how others felt about this and if you support any charities what it is you do if you don't mind sharing!

And good for you miss polo. Always be a good role model and yes, people should always consider these things year round.

There are SO MANY worthy causes--what matters is that people do stop and take notice and help. We can do something. I know of people who could and dont and hide behind whatever reasons they can come up with, but I know for fact that there are many families who by right qualify for "poorness" themselves but their generosity and compassion make them all the richest people I know by far. Mind you there are so many wealthy people who contribute so much too, and not to put anyone down. I just think we are all capable of doing something and should.

Last year I spent the week before Christmas in Children's Hospital with my 5 year old great-nephew. He was diagnosed with leukemia one week before Christmas. There were so many generous children that came around every day bringing presents. The outpour of love was awesome. My husband and I vowed to do something every year in return for their unselfishness. God blessed us, and we will bless others.

That's a very good point but instead of just thinking about giving at Christmas, I try to do so all year round - just in a small way. I only work part time but I give a little bit of money every month by Give As You Earn to 4 chosen charities. Plus I am a volunteer for Pets As Therapy and with my dog I visit Residential Homes in my area. I know it's not much but I suppose it's better than nothing and I like to know that I'm doing something each month.

Thank you for putting the word out. Christmas is a time for giving and not just a "Merchant's Holiday". I know of a wealthy family where they are most all doctors and one year they decided to quit giving each other gifts that they probably wouldn't like and instead pool their money to put a roof on a school in a third world country, or, supply books, or just anything that has a very special need. They have been doing it ever since. It is wonderful...of course they still give their children Christmas gifts. Another acquaintance has her children help pass out Christmas dinner at the homeless shelter. They are teaching them to see beyond themselves and I expect when these children are older they will be a blessing to society and very civic minded. Mmm

I believe that celebrating love isn't only for christmas. So I try to help others in a simple manner each and every time of the year. Like, giving my excess food to street children, donating my old clothes to some of the poorest districts in our province and simply not cursing. I stop by someone who needs a little help. I voluntarily adjust to certain things that might end up to an argument if I don't.I try to be a good person ^_^

What we usually do is give money for our Charity at church, there is one lady that has been there forever. She collects money for the elderly or persons that are to humble to go and ask for money. She wants to give them a sense of dignity, because I have ased for persons to come over for Christmas dinner..but she nods her head, a lot of people that are just to needy like to be private she would tell me. They just don't want to be known, some people are like that ..suffer in silence.
So what we do is give about $200.00 in a money order from a grocery store.
