Clean energy from alternative sources is a world issue. We had an opportunity to do a lot about it over 30 years ago when Jimmy Carter was all ready to do something about it when the world's oil production was at peak but many people wanted the decadence to continue and voted for Reagan. During the Carter Admin there was solar panels on the White House and many incentive programs for creation of new sources of energy. If you are interested in good reading that was very visionary Google Jimmy Carter's energy speech. We can thank Reagan for getting in bed with the Saudi's for many of the problems we have currently in the Middle East and thank him for problems in other places in the world trying to steal other country's resources for his friends in big business. So with all of that in mind it has been historically both a "conservative" an "liberal" issue depending on what your position is on the matter.

An American issue. The problem is some people resist change, and other people's solutions aren't practical, without crippling economic repercussions. You can figure out who is who. There needs to be an answer in between. A combination of tax incentives for more energy efficient building, R&D in alternate fuels and methods in transportation, and dare I say it, nuclear energy. With the emphasis on energy independence. It just makes economic sense. Fossil fuel prices are just going to keep going up.

This should be a national issue and all people should get behind it .
We can achieve energy independence in 8 years if we work at it as a nation .
Pebble bed nuclear reactors and solar power can replace all fossil fuels currently in use today .
We just have to make the commitment to do it .
We have the process for hydrogen which can fuel our engines or electric cars which can be recharged .
Tesla motors has a sports car to rival a Porsche on the market for around $90,000.00 .
We have the knowledge its just getting the people behind it .
If we applied only 5 million workers to the problem of energy independence we could reach that goal in no time at all .
There is no such thing as a bad or to costly energy independence program .
From 20 square miles covered with solar panels to reactors in every community to provide electrical needs .
Many small self contained reactors like those used on nuclear powered ships could safely power entire communities including converting water to hydrogen .
We need to start soon .

Definitely a national issue. Liberal (progressives) have been at the forefront of this debate for years...It is the status-quo Conservative mind-set that has blunted their efforts. Big oil money is being used to finance cherry-picked research to question and downplay the effects of fossil fuels that are causing global warming. As long as MONEY is the motive, it will take some time to collectively come together on this issue. A mandated presidential election (LANDSLIDE) would certainly move us in that direction. Needless to say I'm not talking about REPUBLICANS!!!

This is a national security issue. The sooner the USA becomes independent of the Middle East the better for us and the world.

It's a national issue.
The "independent" part is being able to meet our energy needs without the assistance of another resource-rich nation like Saudi Arabia.

This is a great question.
And for energy independence to have devolved into political mudslinging is outrageous. What happened to good ol' Yankee ingenuity? America really should be at the forefront of alternate energy research. THIS will be the "Gold Rush" of this millennium.

Ask the idiots who are still buying giant SUVs and have the gall to slap patriotic bumper stickers like "I support our troops" on the back.
What it should say is, "I support my own right to use up way more resources than I need and some poor slob to go and die in the desert in a war for oil so I can continue to be irresponsible."
