I'm from Chicago, Illinois and am not a racist. People all around the world are racist. Why are they like that? because they are brought up in that environment and their parents teach them that way.

Sure, there is racism here, but not everyone is racist.
Some people will say the South because of history, but I hear more and more about the North now, so.
I do know that the South has a great mixture of culture, so the ones who live here and are racist don't usually show it in public (with exception of the Internet where they can "hide").

Americans are of all races, ethnic groups, religions or secular groups, who come from, or whose ancestors come from, all over the world.
Racism is inescapable, but I believe far less prevalent than in other countries. There are people here who are descendants of 20 to 30 different nationalities, and two or three different races. Americans jokingly call this "Heinz 57" after the steak sauce.
Mixing has grown so much that the Census Bureau was forced to add "multi-racial" to the racial choices on the census form for 2000. When asked on the census form what main nationality they are descended from, a growing number have given up any foreign denotation and say they are of the American nationality.
Just think of it as the Tiger Woods effect. The superstar golfer is of black, white, and Asian descent.

Racism is an industry in America, and it is used as a tool to cause an emotional response.
If you notice, its always the white people who are being reported as the ones who are racist in America, and the blacks and Hispanics are the victims. White people here generally do not have a problem with a person's skin color or their culture. Whenever a black person suffers a tragedy or becomes the victim of an injustice in this country, we have high profile activists who automatically rush to the forefront citing racism, bigotry and intolerance, and our media amplifies their inaccurate message. America's recent immigration issue is yet another opportunity to play the race card. We have millions of illegal immigrants from Mexico in this country, and many Americans are now in favor of securing our borders and enforcing our already existing immigration laws. The issue is pretty straight-forward and easy to understand, but the opponents of that are citing, you guessed it --- racism, bigotry and intolerance, and of course our media amplifies that message as well. The media has painted a distorted picture of reality. From my own observation, the only racism I've observed is the attitudes and resentment from blacks and Hispanics towards whites.

Reality show is what the media wants you to think it is. It is not.
Remember, the media can benefit by promoting racist ideals, whether directly or indirectly.
Your question is not clear, "where in the USA is there most racism?" I would say on Reality TV as everyone loves to watch a train wreck, and Reality TV is proof of that.

I think there is racism everywhere. and there are many americans that are not. but you are right there is racism in America..I am not one of them..all races are beautiful and have a heritage that tells a fascinating story...
On these talk shows and reality shows, they are looking for the extreme cases to put on the show. That's how they get their ratings.
and as for the southern US..I live in the south...There isn't racism here live there was 30-40 years ago. I think it's probably worse in the northest..
I live in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.s Home town...he lived downtown Montgomery, AL as well as Rosa Parks, she is from Montgomery too. I don't know anyone of my white race who isnt proud to have that as part of their towns history.

No more or less than anyone else. It's a part of ignorance. Education by its very nature, eliminates racism. Some parts of the deep south still hold the old sepratist view, but even they're coming around. I'm from the Northeast and we're pretty progressive, but even then, my wife and I get the occasional dirty look bc we are an interracial couple. And we get it from both ethnicities. It's a sad part of reality, but these racist dinosaurs will be extinct soon.
EDIT: How could anyone give a negative vote on my post? Is Hitler still alive????

There is racism everywhere in the world. Racism is not generally condoned in America as it appears to be elsewhere. Africans and Europeans are still conducting "ethnic cleansing" with the sanction of their governments. Ethnic cleansing is a euphism for murdering people because of their faith or color.

I have lived both in europe & america and I am not white. I have had worser experiences in europe than in America.
Not saying that America is better than europe or anyother part of the world. I guess it might be that I lived in a more racist place in europe and less racist in place America.
I think racists are in every country, just in different concentrations and thier clout varies on factors like the overall view of the society in the area, the local laws and how effectivly they are obeyed and enforced.

It's just as you pointed out. Most countries are not as racially and ethnically diverse as the United States so they have yet to be in a similar situation. The U.S. is just experiencing this long before other countries, and whereas other countries will be able to go from experience, when you are the first, you just dont know how to do it. We have a french student here who says France is facing this problem with the muslim population, and they don't know how to handle it.

No more than any country with alot of different nationalities.
One mentioned it's mostly in the redneck south. I beg to differ. Admittedly the south has quite a few blatant racists that would do serious harm. But living in the south has little to do with their hate. It has to do with the way they are raised. Even during the civil war (1860s) the north wasn't as non-slavery as they proclaimed. They may not have bought & sold slaves but they were treated like second class citizens.
A land owner in the south (no matter how brutal) had to provide housing, food & a certain amt. of healthcare so they could continue to slave for him. In the north they were paid less than a white man (with few rights, if any) & many couldn't even afford a roof over their head and/or food to suffice & no healthcare at all. In the south a slave worked from dawn to dusk. In the north he worked 15 & 16 hour days. So who was more racist?
Recent studies show more blacks are migrating south than north now & if the south is so racist you have to wonder why.
I've never been predjudice and have a bunch of friends of various nationalities & who are black that I've been close friends with all my life. Yet I've experienced it from blacks many times in other towns. Where simply because I was white some blacks thought I deserved to be talked down to, pushed, cussed out for no reason, even hurt. I understand the anger better as an adult & knowing more of history but it still hurts, is wrong & another form of racism.
My husband who has traveled all over Europe says France is the worse for the rascist attitudes though it's more subtle by actions & attitudes than words. Americans tend to be more verbal. But it's more unconnected anger than real predjudice. The quickest way to hurt someone when you're mad is to make a slur of some kind by saying typical n---ger, ho--y, ch--k, whatever. People of the same race do it to each other. But I don't believe true rascism is as nearly as prevalent as the media would lead one to think.
