It looked like formula but it was real thick and actually choked her at first. It was super scarey for me! What was this and why did it happen?

Sounds like she had quite a bit of phlegm, I'd take her in just to make sure she doesnt have a lung infection. She might just have a cold coming on and her sinuses dripped into her throat all at once.

Or it might have just been some spit up that was very mucus filled. My son did that once, he didnt cought, he spit it up and its like it was so stringy that it gagged him. It was like a big glob of snot from his belly or something. I dont know what it was, but he never did it again. I think he was like 10 weeks, maybe 12. He was real young though.

Definately take her to the doctor. Sounds like her nose was running and it got stuck in her airway. Thank God she woke up first. A way to help her until she can see the doctor might be using a sucktion bulb to suck the mucus from her nose and mouth. If she has to spend another night before she sees her doctor, keep a close eye on her and you might think about holding her upright while she sleeps.

It could be croup. Does she have a barking cough? that's usually what they look for. Call her doctor and talk to them. They will usually have you take the baby into the bathroom and run a hot shower. She just needs to breathe the steam from the shower and it will help her clear the crud.
