My mil is the queen of boasting. She brags about herself and her daughter. She always tries to make something seem like it is not. I am tired of being around her and her arrogant ways. Why does she feel like she needs to impress me. I love her just the way she and her daughter is. It is like when she is around me she can't help but to be so boastful. I would enjoy her more if she would just be herself. There is no need to try to impress me. I am uneasily impressed.

MIL is mother in law.

She feels the need to "boast" because she feels or thinks that everyone should know and feel the same way she does. I've read your other questions, and your family is a bit messed up. I think you and your one SIL are in a losing battle against the one who quit her job and your MIL.

First off, what is a "mil"?? Secondly, I would say that she is probably insecure with herself and has issues with feeling less than worthy to be around others. Sit down with her and talk to her about it...well, not necessarily her boastfulness, but ask her about her childhood. Get a better understanding of how she was raised and what she's been through. Obviously, you mean alot to her or else she wouldn't be trying to impress you so much...so give it to her and kill two birds with one stone. Build her up a little, tell her frequently how impressed you are with her life and her daughter...it will ease her insecurities and quiet down her boasting to you. Good luck to you!!

Why is it daughter-in-laws just HAVE to find SOMETHING to bash on mother-in-laws about???

You keep harping on the same subject.

Sounds to me like you are protesting to much, are you SURE you're not jealous? If you truly love her just let it go in one ear and out the other. Not a big deal!

Boasting is a need to justify oneself because of insecurities. It shows that she is "a friend in need".
