OK, don't even try to find anything racist here. I am asking this question because to me, the problem of overpopulation in Africa and Asia is a very critical one and should be dealt with immediately. However, I do wish to blame poor people who are irresponsibly engaging in sex knowing that it may result in pregrancy. I believe, that the people are also driven by their selfish "I want to have children" while not having any means to raise these children. And it simply breaks my heart to hear news about children's suffering and deaths just because their parents wanted to have sex.

If Catholics decide to have 10 kids and have means to normally raise them - I don't have a problem with that. When an African or an Asian has 10 kids and has means to normally raise them - I don't have a problem with that. But I do have a problem with ANYONE who brings a child into this world and does not have means to provide for this child. This is highly selfish and this is what I call "breeding".

Oh, come on, Sahara, do you really believe that after several thousand years human beings - wherever they may live - don't know that if you have sex then you may end up with a baby? What else to do? I don't know, perhaps they can try masturbation.

It is the lack of education and opportunities. What else are they going to do? They are poor. There is nothing else. Just wait around? For what?

Educated societies with ample opportunities do not overpopulate themselves because they know better.

Technology is the problem (and may have to be the solution).

Basically, African nations were centuries behind Western civilization, and with the introduction of modern technology (including better farming methods, I suppose), they've had a population explosion.

So, imagine some ancient tribal society with modern technology and a population boom, and there you have the recipe for the problem.

With your broken heart, what have you actually done about the Bush administration limiting information and funding for birth control in those countries. How did you vote? My guss is that you are a hypocrite, however I am willing to be corrected.

I think irresponsible people breeding, lack of education, lack of unity (more than just tribal) is what caused the overpopulation, along with lack of capitalism

I agree it is due to lack of education. I am amazed that birth continues in starving nations. As a woman, I would find it too heartbreaking to continue to give birth knowing the child would die of starvation or disease.

I don't agree that the overpopulation in Africa is any more about irresponsible people breeding than I believe Catholics are irresponsible people breeding...
