Im always a little bit confused about the 'color-blind- part. Is it that he did not know he was color blind or he did not know you cant fly jets if you are colorblind?
And if he didn't know he was colorblind, how can you not realize that at some point? I mean, he's 15, surely he realized at some point something was wrong?

I don't think that Dwayne suffered from total color blindness, but, that he had "red green" color blindness (dichromacy) where one of the three color mechanisms is absent. In total color blindness, all three mechanisms are absent. Chances are that he could have gone on that long without until he took the test that Olive gave him. But, it would have been detected during driver's training or a health exam. The whole premise of the movie was what happens when well intentioned, busy parents are not paying enough attention to their children or their home. That was apparent with the continuous chicken dinner, Olive's weight issues, Dwayne's health issues and Olive's hilarious "stripper" talent for the pagaent.

As lynnguys said.. it's most likely the red/green colorblindness When the colors are not together you can kind of tell them apart, but when they are together you cannot.. I remember in high school they did that test in class.. it's a bunch of red and green dots and the green ones made a seven in the center.. one of the other students thought we were playing a huge joke on him.. he had no clue.. It's something you are born with.. so you may never realize it without the test.

Uhhhh, of course he knew he was colorblind. He was unaware that the Air Force won't allow colorblind pilots. They won't allow anyone w/ eye probs (nearsighted, farsighted, colorblind) to fly fighter jets. But commercial/private pilots can still get licensed if they are nearsighted, etc.

I think what it was, is that he didn't realize that he was colour blind. Then the uncle or w/e says that he can't fly if he's colour blind, that is why he got sooo upset.
Maybe he didn't know he was colour blind because he didn't know what colour was through out his life.

that part kind of confuses me too, because you think he'd know .. like in kindergarten when you color?? lol.

well he probably never did the chart before that the little girl showed him. He was upset because he wanted out of his "normy" family, and the only way out for him was his dream to fly jets.
