because the light seemed like it was following us. It would stay still for a few minutes and just blink its lights like crazy. then it would start moving up and down, side to side, zig zagging, very very fast! then it would move across the sky and then kind of dim out... what could this possibly be???

I'd maybe go on some commonly used UFO sightings sites (even if you feel crazy doing it) and see if anyone else reported seeing something like that in your area at the same time you saw it. Sometimes those sites have admins that look into it and come back and offer explanations (eg..."Spoke to NASA, it was a rocket", or whatever).

The lights you describe are the normal running lights of an airplane, except for the blue. The white lights could be the lights they use for take offs and landings. Is the area near an airport ?

It sounds like the aurora borealis.....but that usually occurs in the North Pole.
