Hi I'm travelling to California next year for a holiday. Is it worth the expense to visit Hawaii ? Do only Americans go there ? As it would seem an expensive detour for people who have to travel to America first and then onwards .. The flights are like 450 euro return from LA to Hawaii. What about flights from australia /new zealand to Hawaii? is this plausible

Anytime you have a chance to go to Hawaii, it is worth the money. I lived there for several years on Oahu, and have visited all the islands. Just two years ago my wife and I took our children there and rented a condo on the island of Hawaii. We vacation several times a year, take cruises and travel all over the world. The best trip we have evr had was the time we spent on Hawaii.
People from all nations go there. As it is a part of the US, of course there are many US citizens there, but the tourist come from all over the world. There is a significan Asian influence there.
I have family in New Zealand and Australia and we have found it easiest for all of us to meet for family visits in Hawaii.
I highly recommend you go!
PS if you aren't going to the San Francisco/Bay Area, I would skip Cali all together and just spend the whole time in HI

People from all over the world go there, it's just a bit out of the way. It's an incredibly beautiful part of this country, and if you have a strong desire to go there, then I say go for it! I'm sure there are flights from Australia and NZ as well; again, it's a major travel destination for people around the world. Just about everyone I've ever talked to has said that it was well worth the trip.
As for me, it's the one US state I have not yet visited; can't drive there haha.

I would forget California and spend all your holiday in Hawaii. It is the most beautiful place i have ever been. Oahu is worth a brief visit, after all everyone has to go to Waikiki and the Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor but then i would leave and jump on a plane to Kauai ( $39 with Aloha Airline, Check website). Kauai is stunning and has white sand beaches and huge canyons. The sea cliffs have to be seen to be believed but if you have ever seen the opening titles of Jurassic Park you will know what the Na Pali cliffs look like. Check out www.kauaivacationresorts.com to find excellent cheap accomodation.........Aloha!!!

I've travelled all over the world. I lived in Hawaii for a year and have visited there many times. It's probably the only place I've ever felt sad about leaving. It's beautiful and I highly recommend it. If you love white sand beaches, 80 degree F water, and cold beverages then this is your place. Stay in Waikiki and be a tourist there. You'll love it.

Nope. I went because I have relatives there, and it was great to see them. But it's full of fat old people in horrible clothes.
