i would like to know this because sometimes i see a really bad answere . what is the purpose of thumbs down

Thumbs down actually means someone did not like your answer. It does not effect your membership or score in any way. It also means that someone have read your answer.

It is just a way of showing that someone did not like your answer, even though some people just go around giving thumbs down on all answers..I don't care either way about getting thumbs down...It doesn't change my account ..

The thumbs down is given when an answer does not seem to fit the question,is a rant or if it is not factual.
But some people give thumbs down to alll answers but their own.
