I've heard he is a leading candidate for the job, but may turn it down to stay in Boston. What's the deal?

Wasn't Joel Skinner in the running?

Because of the situation the Pirates find themselves in, you'd think no-one with previous managerial experience would touch the job. Skinner has links with the new GM Neal Huntingdon and is young enough to relate to the players.

I'm quite surprised no-one's mentioned the AAA affiliate Indianapolis boss, he seems to do well in getting the prospects to the MLB on a very tight budget.

There are a couple of things to consider. One: Boston has to be paying him more than the Pirates could offer. Two: Why in the world would Farrell want to leave something that he's had a hand in creating with the Red Sox? The Sox will be very good for several years and I'm sure Farrell wants to be part of it.

Bottom line is that the Pirates can't afford him.

He's not necessarily leading. The Pirates are going to interview White Sox third base coach Joey Cora, who is a great baseball mind.

He wants the Indians job when it opens up in two years. I think that going to the Pirates would be a bad move until Pittsburgh starts making some good GM decisions.

If he has any sense, and everyone else for that matter...they will stay far far away from that job. Jim Tracy went there and look what happened to him. Managerial suicide. He will never get another managing job in MLB. Avoid the Pirates like they're the plague.

Yes it is very possible, but he is loved in Boston and did a great job. Many players think that he is the best that they have ever had. Plus he has never managed before and those are 2 completly different jobs.
I hope he stays..but thats just me.

I hope not.

He has done wonders with those pitchers that can't be touched.

He's a great coach and a great guy.I hope he stays in Boston.
