I'v e had my LCD monitor for around 18 months. In the past couple of days something very odd has started happening. After it's been on around 10-20 minutes, it starts to flicker occasionally. Then after another minute or two, small black lines (about 5mm long) shoot horizontally across the screen. Then things go rapidly VERY wrong. You know how a TV picture kind of goes up and down when it's slightly out of tune? It does that for a while, then it gets all pixellated and weird. Basically it's unusable. I've checked all the cables and stuff, and it's not me video card. Anyone got any ideas? I really don't want to fork out for a new one.

Keep it away from anything magnetic, like speakers for example (which have magnets in them). If you've had magnetic field near it for a while it might finally have succumbed to it's effects.

Hi, I had a similar problem which turned out to be the monitor cable.

When you are having the problem try 'wiggling' the connector at both the monitor end and the graphic card end, If the problem stops then you know its the cable.

Depending on the age of the monitor / cable the company should be kind enough to replace the cable.
Although it may be outside of its original 12 month warranty the item was sold ' Fit for use' and in the UK on electrical appliances that means a min of 3 years.

Other things to try would be to uninstall your graphic driver and re-install the latest drivers.

Last resort - buy a new cable or monitor - best place www.ebuyer.co.uk very good quality of stock, very well priced.

I hope this helps, and fingers crossed for you..

It sounds like your LCD monitor is on its way out, they don't last as long as the old CRT tube monitors, I am told that they burn out very quickly probably due to the heat generated from them, if you still have your old monitor I would plug this back in to the PC until you can afford to buy a new TFT LCD flat screen monitor, I brought a HP TFT 19" wide screen from PC World last month and the price was £140 it also has built in speakers so I would suggest to go down to this store and have a look at the monitors there and see if there is one that suits you and is affordable, good luck

Time to shop for a new monitor. From the symptoms, it sounds like the inverter is going. Usually costs more to fix than to get a new monitor. Good luck!!

well....definetly smth is wrong...but if it happens after 10-20 mins....then i presume that a component is malfunctioning because of heat....i would suspect the power supply of the LCD becoming unstable after heading up(a capacitor maybe),but if i were u i would save time and buy a new LCD
