The configuration you describe (using a switch) would require each PC to have its own IP address assigned by your ISP. i.e. you won't be able to manually assign IP addresses. I have no experience with Reliance, but the ISPs that I have used in the past will only allocate 1 or 2 IP addresses to a customer; and additional IP addresses must be "purchased".

So it is possible to go that route, but I would recommend either

a) using a router as suggested by Bill above, or
b) using two NICs in one computer--one NIC connected to your modem and the other to your switch with the rest of the computers--and enable internet connection sharing on the computer that's connected to the modem.

But like I said, I don't know anything about your ISP so if they are willing to assign you 7 IP addresses for free then it's all good.

It would probably be easier to simply allow the switch to assign the IPs for you.

Connect the switch to the ADSL router first, then connect the computers one at a time. Set up each on the network (I'm assuming you are using Windows OS) and an IP address will be assigned (usually something like 192.168.0.X --- where "X" is an incrementing number for each computer).

Usually the router takes 192.168.0.1

Of course you can manually set the ip by going to "control panel", "network and internet connections", "network connections". Then right-click on "local area connection", select "properties", then "general".

Highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" then click "properties" below. Under the "general" tab it will have a tick in the "obtain an IP address automatically" box. Untick that box and tick the box that says "use the following IP address".

Then enter an IP address (make sure it doesn't conflict with another computer and that it is a valid IP address).
Enter the proper subnet mask and default gateway addresses.

Usually the default gateway is 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

Then click "ok" and exit.

You can run "ipconfig /all" from the command prompt and see what the subnet mask and default gateway are.

A router would be better. Here is how to set up a LAN.

1. Each computer must have a NIC.
2. Connect each computer to the Router or Switch using ethernet cat 5 cable with RJ45 (straight through cable)
3. Connect the Adsl Modem to the router using straight through eterner cable (WAN port).
4. Run network set up wizard on each computer.
a. The workgroup name must be the SAME on each computer.
b. The name of each computer must be different.
c. enable file and print sharing.

Let the router assign an IP address to each computer. This is better than using static IP's.
These IP's are private and not visible on the net. The Adsl modem sees to that, it is called NAT.

Your config will not work without a lot of unneeded work.

Purchase a gateway router. Connect the modem's ethernet feed port to the router WAN port. You have a dynamic IP address from your ISP so configure router WAN port for dynamic IP (see manual directions). Configure router LAN ports to assign LAN IP via DHCP and limit the IP address range to about 50 IP addresses as this is more than enough.

Connect the router's LAN port, and all pcs to the network switch. Make sure all pcs have their LAN connection set to obtain IP address and DNS address automatically. Reboot all pcs.

You are now in business.

You can't do this with a switch. You need a router to isolate the packets from and to each machine. A switch does not understand routing, it only works within it's own local network. To use 2 lan cards on a machine is only required for setting up internet connection sharing on one of them.
