eg, when will they realise that George Bush and Hilary Clinton represent the economic interests of their own elite section of society whilst disingenuously prating about 'the American people' or 'Western civilisation' or 'freedom'?

really, Mr Westhill??
How do you account for the fact that succcessive US regimes - of both parties- have allowed a system to continue where millions of Americans are without health care?

We are ignorant of this fact in the USA because the corporate-dominated media and educational system push the myth that "America is not a class society."

In school, I remember being taught about the Middle Ages, and the bourgeois revolution, but they pulled a sleight-of-hand trick. They said that because the bourgeoisie were the "middle class" THEN, that what we have now is "the rule of the middle class" - ignoring the obvious fact that if a middle class revolts and takes over, it becomes the new UPPER class. Since the term "middle class" has since been corrupted to mean the better-off members of the working class, this intellectual scam makes better-educated people accept the myth that "average folks run the country."

With a weak and corrupt labor union movement, and no mass socialist parties at all, the working class in the U.S. is helpless to stop whatever our masters decide for us. If we get uppity, there are liberals ready to lead progressive movements into the dead-end of big business' "Democratic Party," and if we get a little stronger, the "Republicans" are ready to slap us down - although sometimes, like with the "cold war liberal" Democrats in the 1950s and the "moderate Republicans," these roles are reversed.

The upper class, as a group, fights for the best interests of the upper class. Period. There are occasional individual "class traitors," like John Reed, son of a wealthy banking family that became a Marxist, but they are traitors because they help working class movements, not some "liberal" fantasy in which "enlightened wealthy people can help the poor." As a group they have nothing in common with average folks and following them politically can mean nothing but disaster and oppression for us.

They are worse than worthless - they need to be removed from power. ALL of them - both the "Democratic" and "Republican" wings of big business. Otherwise, we are in for more war, more oppression, more starvation - and eventually a collapse into total barbarism.

"Without a party, with a substitute for a party, or against its party, the working class cannot prevail." - Leon Trotsky

Oh, and Hillary's 1993 proposal? Just a giveaway to the insurance companies, like Romney's plan in Massachusetts, where working class people are REQUIRED to buy a plan. WE CAN'T AFFORD MEDICAL INSURANCE - how does the "solution" to that translate as "You MUST buy insurance"? We need a completely socialized health care system, and liberal nostrums at best don't provide that - and at worst they FORCE us to pay the insurance companies.

Wealthy, big business people are not our friends. It's as simple as that. Why is that so hard for some workers and small business owners to understand?

I can't spend any more time on this right now. I have to go shower, dress, and go to work, so I can earn my living in this brutal capitalist society.

I suggest that the upper limit for contributions be done away with, and that the maximum payouts in retirement still remain as they are, adjusted for inflation. Social security is not a "give away" program but one that we all contribute to like a savings plan, and should be protected from other uses by the government. Do you agree or disagree and why? If you are so worried about it then why don't you; first put it back into the private sector and make to were no can take out money from it for their own interest, second pay back every penny you have borrowed from both Social Security and Medicare, third take the illegal immigrants off of it and those who come over here but never paid a penny to it, and lastly have it the same for everyone; in other words government officials are to participate in it and if they want something more they do it on their own without the tax payers funding it?Yet, the monetary stytem feeding the imbalances had never been really changed. They, a group of scholars, suggested that all interest rates would be 3% or less for everyone to become rich if desired (that must be true also to taces). The best economic situation would be, they said, when there were no interest rates. Why not try this solution? The rich would still be rich. My question is: when soial security becomes a problem connected to federal debts, why not work with a balanced or gain budget and spend no more than comes in, as any family has to strive for? Why not ban all loobying gifts in order to get laws that serve the country? God bless America.

Part of the reason is that we don't talk much about class in the US. We are supposed to be a class-less society.

However, the upper class CAN represent the interests of the working and lower classes.

The rhetoric about "western civilization," "democracy" and "freedom" originates from right wing conservatives who seek a confrontation with Islam and dominance over the middle east. Most US Democrats oppose this agenda.

Edit: Formerly most workers had insurance through their employers. The private payer, multi-payer system worked pretty well. If you think Hillary and the Democrats are all part of the same unitary cabal, then why did Hillary propose a type of nationalized health care in 1993. There are "elite" who will represent the good of the country as a whole. It is a fact.
