They have the pace bowlers which can put any batting line up in trouble.
Their batting line -up has chased 434 in odi's & is very well balanced.
They are great in fielding department.
So, the only thing that they lack is a world class spin bowler. A bowler like Shane Warne,Kumble,Saqlain etc.
The new guy Harris is doing a good job but he is still inexperienced.
They need to find a regular spin bowler who can win them matches on his own.
Then & only then they can seriously challenge Australia.
New Zealand need to find some solid batsmen,there batsmen are unable to play well in pressure situations.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lol, India,Pak are great but we are so damn inconsistent.
We need to improve our fielding & running betwen wickets.
*******No worry, future belongs to us
Cheers!!!
Montitude, I thought you were 'a lengend', not 'controversial'? Did you change your name or have I been mistaken.
I agree, South Africa have a huge potential and on their day they are capable of dishing it right up to our guys (Oz). The acquisition of a world class spinner would provide another option in attack and allow for a more rounded rotation of their seam/pace attack. I know that a number of South Africans have attended cricket programs in Australia (along with a number of other nationalities) - I just hope they development of the players does not come back to haunt us.
Should India and Pakistan gain a bit more professionalism in their approach to competitive cricket they have the potential to be superpowers. I think we saw a bit of India attempting to copy the Australian aggressive style of play, however they did not play the aggression card correctly. If they can harness 'mental aggression' and play that card at the right time and at the right stage of the match in the right manner on the right player - well, anything can happen.
Edit: Rocky - good point! South Africa have succumbed to nerves (commonly called 'choking') in the past. It's this type of condition that allows teams like Australia to apply 'mental disintegration' pressure to win the close matches. Again, a really good point mate that I overlooked.
Yes a good spinner would help. Definately balance out there one dimensional bowling attack.
They still crumble under pressure though.... (World Cups)
On India though. They need a good pace attack. You have seriously never had one for any length of time. This is what is holding India back from being number 1. You have the money, the numbers, always had class batsmen, and good spinners but fast bowlers......
The also require one or two player of the calibre of Jack Kallis to become No. 1 team in the world as apart from Kallis, i do not find any other batsman in the present South African Team who can play controlled innings when the team is in a tight spot. Only sloggers and attacking batsmen cannot consistently win matches for any team.
A world class spinner wil help S.A but thats is not all we(sa) need. We need to control the pressure put on us in important games. We always have a habit of screwing it up jus at the wrong time(world cups 99,03,07) S.A also need to pick players on there talent n not on quotas. Come on ppl, Lets face it. Some of the quota guys are simply just not performing when guys like niel mckenzie n jacques rudolph. SA need these kind of players to help them move forward in cricket. Eg.. Rudolph is a world class numb3 batsman as well as a handy spinner
Paul Harris - he is the real deal (not like Boje who was more of a batsman-part time bowler in my opinion) and I think SA are going to be a real threat again. Ntini, Morkel, Nel and Harris. For once they will have a varied attack
Harris gets turn, is tall and bowls an attacking line.
Yes, one spin bowler and some solid nerves (during qualifying matches) away from being no 1
You are mistaken. Sex never becomes boring even at 60 plus, and it always thrills. Maybe there is a reduction in the frequency, but it remains the same as it was in the beginning. I don't understand how it becomes interesting after seeing others. After all, it is all in the mind.
Oh Yeah! On the money, monty! A good spinner in SA, and they will not be easy for the oppositions. Its just the only lack in SA cricket as of now. Good point!
