i read this article this morning,
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/afp/20071031/tod-australia-animal-offbeat-37b0eca_1.html
other than dogs can you think of any other pets that have been in the news for saving their owners lives?
IMO a dog will always be the best pet their unconditional love they have for their owner is what makes them so special.
your opinions please.

My dog protects me.he even comes and sits on the steps in the garden while i get my washing in.
He plays out with the kids in the street as well.
I live on the entrance to the woods,so he sits with the neighbourhood kids and watches over them.God help anyone who tried to harm them, although he wouldn't hurt a fly,he has a pretty mean bark.
He is a Jack Russel cross, who thinks he is a Rottweiler.
I wouldn't be without him xx

Saw this article on here the other day. My best friend is my Girlie (dog) she doesn't think she is one though! She has been there for me through thick and thin and helped me overcome the loss of loved ones, lays by my side when I'm not well and her love is unconditional, she couldn't care less if my hair isn't too tidy or I wore that skirt yesterday, she greets me with a waggy tail, big bark and a loving lick. She is my shadow and is never more than 2 feet away from me. I have always had pets, Fred the goldfish lived to a grand old age of 21, budgies that have lived long past their usual years and they've all been a great source of comfort to me. When they die they leave a BIG gap in my life and although I can always get another pet, the others will always remain in my heart. Each one has been special and can't be replaced, I love them for their traits of character and will have a pet until the day I die. (Provisions have already been made for their care after my life is over). There, I'm all sad now thinking about them all. x

I guess it depends what you want from a pet.

If you want a completely subservient pet that is loyal to the point of stupidity, then a dog's for you.

But could you imagine being married to a person like that??? Horrendous.

Give me a cat any day. Far more savvy and interesting.
