If she had the power of Serena Williams and improved fitness, of course she would do well. But that's a moot point. She doesn't have that power or fitness. She doesn't even have mental toughness (5-7 in GS finals). She'd need some of that as well.

I don't know that Hingis will ever be able to dominate like she did at the beginning of her career. Today's women's game is full of power and I don't know that Martina will ever handle it. Sure, her fitness can improve, but I doubt she'll gain the power to keep up with players like Davenport, Vaidisova, Sharapova, Jankovic, Ivanovic, and the Williams sisters. She tends to lose to lose to players that she normally would blow off the court. Hingis is missing confidence as well and it doesn't help her. She probably won't be the same, but hopefully she'll be healthier and make 2008 a much better year.

hey my freind, well unforunetlly martina Hingis has announced retirement again.... somewhat of a quitter i think in my opinion.. but maybe shes had enough....
no ultimately i do not think martina hingis could dominate the tour like she once did, too many competitors on todays circuit, and she does not have the overall power and fighting spirit to conquer the opposition... although comparing her to justine henin, they are very similar in stature, size.... both relatively smaller then other players.... Justine henin i believe got stronger over the years with her forehand, she worked on her fitness, got more consistent and powerfull with the forehand, so i do not see why martina hingis could not get stronger. well in general justine henin always could hit somewhat hard though, but she just got even stronger... like others have said though, u either have power or u don't u cannot really acquire more raw power...

Martina's results would definitely improve if she got more power and fitness but the question is, can she? Compared to alot of other players, she is small in stature and quite petite. Power isn't something you can learn. Its something you're born with. Like Mike Tyson's coaches used to say, they couldn't teach him how to punch hard, he was born with it. So I don't see Martina greatly increasing her power no matter how hard she trains. Her fitness I think is pretty good and she seems to move well enough. She's already exploiting her physical capabilities to the max in my opinion.

Some years back I kept a Praying Mantis as a pet, and they only eat live food! Consequently, I acquired the skill of GENTLY capturing live flies in flight, or off any surface, so that I could feed my Mantis uninjured and active prey. Most moving incident was late one night when on arrival home I found my Mantis shedding its skin. I watched, enthralled, for over an hour and I shall never forget seeing my Mantis gradually extend and spread its brand new rainbow-shimmering wings. Next day I released it onto a grapevine in my garden, the same garden in which I subsequently found a swarm of very tiny, recently hatched mantids! They are the cutest little creatures you could ever imagine.

Yes, I think she could dominate if she had the power and fitness.
