Believe it or not, but the rain can help. Eggs from other bodies of water can be lifted out of it and carried in a storm and deposited in the pond.

Most likely though it is water fowl that carry the eggs as they fly from pond to pond.

I think Robert D is correct. I've seen mosquito fish (Gambusia) establish themselves in a disused swimming pool, which was frequented by ducks and other water fowl. I guess the fish eggs got tangled up in their feathers, ot attached to their feet.

eggs are carried thru rainwater and birds carry eggs from one body of water to another as well as animals carry the eggs, the eggs attach to feathers and fir or the eggs are swallowed and not digested
