I had at least 3 kids come to my door today without a parent OR a friend. I had a few more come alone with one parent. These kids were at least 9 years old. It broke my heart. They don't have friends to go out with? Do their parents not allow them to go out with friends? I feel so sad for these kids. Can anyone enlighten me?

My only guesses are mom and dad are working, their friends don't live nearby, maybe they have plans to meet up with others later... I don't know but I agree it's sad. I always went trick-or-treating with my dad and/or one of my friends. There was no way my parents were going to let me go without supervision. Period. But, to me, and I think most sensible people, it's just not acceptable to let a young child go alone. Not after being exposed to all these stories about pedophiles.

You know what I find even more depressing? The parents who take their kids, but follow along in the car instead of walking with them!!! What's up with that?! I counted a few kids like that tonight. There was a sweet girl dressed up in a witch's costume who came to my door...seemingly all alone...but then I noticed a woman (probably her mom) sitting in a car parked in front of the house. I felt sorry for the girl she looked lonely, so I gave her a huge handful of Hershey's Kisses ; )

Yes, it's a bit sad if those kids don't have a group of their own to enjoy the thrills of being with another kid having fun.
l guess their parents are busy elsewhere or not interested to tag along as the activity bores them.
*sigh*

I dont know why, maybe they are not very socialable. . but If i had a child I would be going w/ them. Its a scary world and that is not something they should do alone.

I noticed the same thing. Most seemed shy and didn't seem like they even wanted to do it. I always give them extra candy.

maybe parents are too busy, and friends don't want to do it with them?

They're obviously not aware of the danger.
