Or, at the very least, announce that you'll be letting the community vote for the best answer.

I don't often ask questions, but I always pick a best answer when I do. When it goes to a vote, many times the 'community' doesn't vote, often it's only one person who voted. It can be any member, so they may actually have no idea what the best answer is. Many go through and pick the 1st answer listed, so they can quickly accumulate points. I'm much happier when I get a best answer from the person asking the question, than from being voted b.a. The person asking is the only one who knows which response was best.

The people of this particular room taught me that in the beginning. It was hard to pick just one from so many so I posted a question about it. A few has slipped past me, getting too busy with other things.
"Why is this question in the seniors room?" haha, I posted a question about this one too. It's one that ranks up there with "who cares?" and "that's a dumb question" or answers, "I don't know" or "Thanks for 2 points" I am always amazed how many of these kinds of people are out there. After my question, I sometimes add that I want the seniors opinion, that's why I'm asking here. An attempt to weed out a few of them. Doesn't always work, some can't be taught.

I think unfortunately most people get busy with life and forget to do it or when they see the answers that they have they don't like the answers. I know that most of thr best answers I have gotten from Halloween are from being voted on and not from the asker voting on them as the the day drew closer.

I hear you loud and clear. I have always been annoyed when I see those comments . This is seniors for seniors ,duh ! I like comments and questions from people of all ages but don't appreciate the "why is it posted here?" statement either. What do they think we like to talk about, laxatives and taking naps? Not this senior anyway.

I agree....if members take the time to answer a question, then the poster should take the time to determine a best answer. Common courtesy.

The young rude ones are among us so let's
just be a good example.
Yes, I've noticed that people hardly vote for Best Answers. Thanks for the reminder. :)

I understand your question, there are times that no answer to a question is 'best', and the vote is the way to decide the outcome, when all answers are correct, best is stalemate.
