Samanta (without the H, is a legitimate name) is a less common form of the name "Samantha" which is the feminine form of "Samuel" which means "God has heard"

I believe Rain gave you the complete (correct) origin and meaning, but yes, Samanta is the Italian form of Samantha.

Samantha's meaning is debated, however. It is sometimes claimed to mean "listener" in Aramaic, but that may be a loose translation. Generally, it is assumed a feminine form of Samuel, more accurately meaning "God has heard " (possibly where the looser "listener" meaning originated) or "name of God."

Hope that helps. ;)
