"Star Wars" is one movie where not all aliens look ugly, like Queen Amidala, Princess Leah, and Hans Solo. Of course, there were Chewvacca and Jagga the Hutt who prove what you are saying.
But perhaps by depicting aliens as horrible-looking creatures, moviemakers are really taunting aliens to come out, show themselves, and prove that they are more advanced than humans both in technology and in looks!

I don't know. There are some pretty cool looking aliens in Star Wars like the Twileks and the Kaminoans, or whatever that species Kit Fisto was.

All the good looking aliens stay on their homeworld to pursue careers in acting and modeling. The normal to homely space aliens have to rely on their intellect and personality and pursue careers in space exploration and terrorizing Earthlings.
