Why Texas since a lot of you guys choose that. Is it because it's too close to the border?

It's a tie between Texas and Utah.

To answer your question, "Why Texas?":

A lot of people outside the States have the perception of Americans as being arrogant and religiously zealous to the point of fanaticism. Texas is singled out becasue it most exeplifies the stereotype of arrogant, proud, Bible-pushing Americans. I know that it's only a stereotype and I shouldn't let it shape my opinions of the State.

We get A LOT of American tourists here where I live (London), and for the most part, the ones with a Southern American accent tend to be very rude and condescending of any foreign culture. I don't let that shape my overall perception of America, but I don't ever want to visit it because of all the American tourists I meet everyday.

Texas

I think it's interesting that so many people singled out Texas.
I've lived in Texas for most of my life, and Austin is one of the most liberal cities in the universe. Conservative, bible-thumping? People who say that haven't been to any of the major cities in Texas! Sure, small towns can be that way, but that's true of ANY state.

Just to educate the folks who have stereotyped ideas about and are biased against Texas ... it's not all cowboys, prairie dogs, cactus, illegal aliens, desert, and rodeos here. We have pine forests. We have big cities with (gasp!) really tall buildings and millions of people! We have Saks! And Macy's! We have world-class educational institutions! The best and most well-maintained highway system in the country! We have lakes, rivers, plains, mountains, and a national seashore! Yes, we say "howdy" and "y'all" but guess what? It's called a regional accent! It doesn't mean we're a bunch of hicks, and not everyone here speaks with the same accent. People who move to Texas tend to stay here. Our population is growing incredibly fast.

So, now that I've gotten that out of my system, where would I not like to live? The only state I can think of is Alaska, where it's too cold for me. I've lived in Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina, California, Connecticut and Illinois, and I have no complaints about any of them. I've visited New York, Maine and New Jersey, Colorado and New Mexico, met lots of wonderful people, saw beautiful scenery. I don't have any preconceived ideas about any of the other states I haven't been to yet, but I hope to be able to visit them all someday.

Cannot think of one except for one that I would not like having to live in and that is New York. I was in the Navy and saw a lot of the U.S. and even Bermuda and Italy. And all the states are nice. Except for New York City. I went through there once and that was enough.

Massachusettes.....To many Demoncrats there, not to mention that Kerry and Kennedy keep getting re-elected from there.
New York..Much the same reason, why the heck would I want to be ANYWHERE where my right to defend myself with a firearm is denied.
California...Those are some weird folks.
I would say D.C.....but Washington DC is not a state, Philidelphia....Because my EX lives there

California (was assigned there while on Active Duty with the Military). HATED it ... too expensive (everything from housing to food to fuel -- as soon as you leave CA -- much more affordable), too dirty, too crowded, too much crime, too greedy (housing costs out of this world ... and in other locations -- they would be considered uninhabitable), no mass transit, etc etc etc

Believe me, was THRILLED when my duty stationed me elsewhere, and I retired elsewhere too. The experience was so bad that I'll NEVER go back again.

Hmm, Texas, Georgia or SC. Can't decide. Think I would skip the entire South. Although Alaska wouldn't be nice either.
