Something that depresses and scares me a lot is that it is probably that when I die my consciousness will be gone forever. It seems impossible that your own (metaphorical) universe will ever collapse and cease to exist.
What do you think happens if you die? Are you personally scared? Be truthful, thanks.

I personally think that we most likely have some sort of spirit which hangs around for a few days, but then disappears into nothingness. I base this on the fact of the number of reports of people smelling dead people's aftershave/perfume years after and other things.
What I HOPE happens is that we are reborn as a baby and get another chance at life. I sincerely I'd get a chance as a female next time around (even though I wouldn't remember being a male, I would like to experience both).
I am a Christian, yet I do not completely believe in the whole Heaven thing. Call me weak faithed, but its hard not to be skeptical.
And yes, I am definitely scared of dying!

First of all, no one can say with absolute certainty what happens after death, because no one has died and come back to tell about it.
And my second main point is that truth/reality is subjective. By this I mean, just because someone does or does not believe in something, it doesn't change whether or not that is ultimate truth and reality? So just because I believe in heaven/hell and God, does not mean that He and it all exists. Also, just because someone believes the opposite about these things, it doesn't mean they don't exist. Do you see what I mean.
Something definitely will occur when we die (either nothing supernatural will happen, or something will ... one or the other).
I personally believe in the Bible and I call myself a Christian. And by this, that means that I hold the Bible as the perfect word of God, and I believe everything that is written in it. The Bible says that after this life, there is another life. So I believe that after everyone dies, they are in the presence of God. And God ultimately will decide who goes where based off of what they did about Jesus' death.
So for me, I have absolutely no fear in death. Because if the Bible is right, then I will be with God forever, and if the Bible is wrong, then I will be in the same place as everyone else, and it doesn't matter anyways. Either way I win. And so what if it were true that we don't exist after this life ... we won't exist to be saddened by it!

The obvious happens -- look at the body of a deceased person or animal. That is it.
Since you claim to be Christian, perhaps your faith could do with some Bible truths!
There are several subject pages dealing with the matter, the soul, the spirit, what happens after death, the resurrection at this link, all supported by scripture:
http://www.bythebible.page.tl/
Go to the third devision on the main page there to find all the subjects regarding this matter.

Each person will respond in the way their religion has taught them. Those that are not religious will say that you die, and nothing is left then except for the physical body to decay, or in my case be turned into ashes.
I tend to believe that we are no different than anything else in this world and when we die, we cease to exist period. Personally scared? No, I am not scared since I know that death is inevitable and I think life should be enjoyed to its fullest. I ride motorcycles and was a firefighter for a very long time so if I was scared of dieing, I would pick another hobby and profession.
To those whose religion who teaches the afterlife I mean no disrespect to you or your religion. Each person will face death in their own way and I would not want anyone who believes in the afterlife to believe any other way.
The best way to live on is to live your life now so that you will be remembered in a way that would make you happy.

The only problem with some of the events that you mentioned is that they're anecdotal and don't stand up to the cold stare of ojective and repetitive observation. Anecdotal evidence is not proof of an afterlife. That doesn't mean that there might be something after death, but the current science just does not support it......who knows what we'll find in the future for afterall, we have to keep open minds.

When you die you sleep. If you die as someone the Christ knows
( yes even pagans who did the best they could with what they had, who did not even know of God is known by Jesus)
as I was saying, if the Christ knows you then you are called to Him and you will hear His voice, all His flock know His voice.
When He calls His church to Him they wake up and go home.
The others who the Christ does not know ( yes there are some "so called Christians" He does not know) will wake up on judgement day and be judged with the rest of us.
Now that's " The Big Sleep" doncha think?
Some will wake up to a nightmare that never ends and others will wake up to a Heaven that never ends.

That's so funny, i was talking to my husband about that tonight.
I own opinion is that the body rots. One's soul, spirit, memory, personality, awareness, body, and mind disappear and are no more. Which is sad and scary.
But...what i would love to think it happens.is going to Heaven where Eternity is spent in there or in Paradise with God, in a state that is beautiful beyond our ability to conceive.
I would love to go into details but it's 2:29 AM and i should go, but i so hope my grandmother is well wherever she went today. Dumnezeu sa te ierte mamaie.

You are eventually reincarnated. I believe wholeheartedly in recarnation--otherwise how do you explain babies being born with birth defects, or little kids dying without having had a chance to live. Yeah, I definitely believe in reincarnation. That is why I am not afraid of dying. I will be back!!!

I use to be afraid but now know that there is another place we go when we die. We leave our body and the spirit lives on forever. I was both happy to be there and quite unafraid and calm. I felt loved and there were other spirits there that I knew before here on earth. I felt sad to return here to earth to finish out my life but I now have no fear of dying.
I died on an operating table when I was 20 and was dead for 15 minutes.

I know what happens... absolutely nothing.
The switch is turned off... poof.
Having a different religion doesn't change reality. there is no soul, no heaven, no reincarnation or anything.
The universe doesn't care enough about humans or any other living thing enough to give us some wonderful place to go after we die. If you understood the history of life on this planet, you would understand y that makes sense.

We are in the cycle of birth & death to clear of our karma imprints. After death if we have enough karmas whether it be good or bad we will be born again.Needn't be scared , as all happens in a very natural way & we will not be aware of anything.Only people who do intense spiritual practices will die of awareness but b'cos of the practice they too will not feel any pain.
