My daughter had never showed any signs of being gay in the past. I am convinced that her exposure to VH1 and even Comedy Central has encouraged her to explore these areas which she would have otherwise never even considered had she not been exposed to them. Does anybody else agree with me? Shows like NEXT and Shot at love with Tila are corrupting the impressionable minds of our children and I don't see anybody questioning the ratings on these shows.

I believe those shows would have influence. They tend to make it seem as if it is the new "thing" to get into and that you haven't lived life to the fullest until you explored.
This is why it is so important for parents to talk to their children and teach them that television is full of nonsense and that their lives are worth much more than to mimick what they see.

What do you mean, you "don't see anybody questioning the ratings on these shows?" You're her mother. If you have a problem with a show you should not permit her to watch it. Period. Regardless of the rating. It is not anyone else's responsibility to parent your child.
Please understand that I find you to be an intolerable homophobe, but that is a whole other issue. Quit blaming others for your lack of parenting and step up to the plate.
Oh, and "no." Access to television (or life in general) does not change someone's sexual orientation. She is who she is... she's 16 years old for goodness sake; she's just figuring things out. Consider the fact that until now she might not have been comfortable sharing this stuff with you (based on your reaction here I could understand why!) If ANYTHING perhaps those shows somehow helped her to feel more confident about expressing herself.
You're grasping at straws and looking for "reasons" that your daughter is who she is. It's not about television. Please try to be love-based with your daughter instead of trying to find excuses for the traits that you don't like.

I don't think television can make a straight person gay, but i do think it encourages people to explore.
Are you sure you're daughter is not just exploring to find out who she really is? teenagers do that a lot sometimes.
Be patient. All you can do is advise her not to make life changing decisions based on how cool something sounds. She might just be acting rebellious.
But if she is convinced she is bisexual, she may be. Be patient with her until she figures it out and accept her just the way she is.

No. VH1 is supposed to stand for "Video Hits One" the same way MTV is supposed to mean "Music Television", but there's precious little music or videos on either channel. They need to stop all these stupid shows and get back to the business of letting people watch videos, from beginning to end, without all the "pop-ups", banners, and other clutter like station logos they fill the screen with nowadays. And they need to make time for different genres of music and not just play hip-hop all day.

I don't agree with a lot of the content of shows like that for young people (myself being only 27), however trust me.. it didn't make your daughter bi-sexual. If she's watching those shows and taking anything from them, it's only allowing her to see that our society has some level of tolerance for openly gay people... it doesn't transform straight people into bi-sexuals or gays. Chances are the signs have been there, you just might not have seen them as much or wanted to notice them until now.

Here is a quote from Dan Savage that applies to you:
"You cannot destroy your child's homosexuality. You can only destroy his life."
Your job as a parent is to raise your child to be the best version of who they really are. Not the premeditated idea of what you want him or her to be.
There are certain things about a person that just ARE. Sexual orientation is one of them. I guarantee you that exposure to television shows does not cause a person to be attracted to one gender or another.
If your daughter is gay or bisexual, she's going to be that whether there is an outlet for it or not. If she's gay, she'd be gay even if she had never been exposed to homosexuality before.
Being a lesbian myself, I can prove it to you, if you choose to believe me. I was raised to be homophobic. And I was. Until I suddenly fell for one of my girlfriends. Does this sound like something I was influenced to do because of some outside influence? No. All my outside influences told me to be heterosexual.
If your daughter is bisexual or gay, I hope that you accept it because it isn't going to change. It may not be easy for you, but you are the parent and you must be strong. Make it easier for her to be who she really is.

I don't believe that watching a tv show will turn anyone gay. The claim is they are born with a specific gene that makes them gay, experimenting will not be the cause!

I agree with you,
but God says that more corruption is a sign of the "end times",
pray and be there for her as a friend as well,
it's lust not love,
lust is lust when someone claims: "I just can't help it !"
love is love when someone says: "Love is patient and Love is Kind".
I do agree with you that shows like Shot at Love and Next could possibly affect a vulnerable teen,
how about writing a letter to producers,
or may I suggest a petition

well you can't hide her from the world forever she is bound to see these things anyway...maybe she is bisexual or maybe it is just a phase that will pass with time
