May I suggest a curving line, from the top left and flowing down in a series of curves, until reaching the bottom of the page.

For a nice effect, make the curves shorter and more frequent in the "back," and longer and lazier as it "flows" to the bottom of the page. This will create the effect of the "past" being distant, and more recent events, much closer. Illustrations and even the text should be smaller "in the distance," and gradually get larger as they get nearer. You may even consider that the nearer object actually overlap some parts of the more distant ones.

hi...how about make it like a calendar...instead of the days you change it to time line...Each of the time line in 1 box. If your poster board is large enough, you can put cute, cute image next to it..the Image you put, try to make it into 3D...you can stick the image on to a thicker cardboard before pasting it on the actual poster board..You can use some nice fonts that is contrast in colour from the poster board to create the title...

Hope this might help.;)
