They are free to adopt their own policies on the matter. Most will refuse. Courts may actually cite you for contempt.

No. Some may take a roll or 2, but they're not going to accept $10 or whatever in pennies.

haha it is a possibiltiy but definitely out of the norm in todays society. Now a days, people pay in hard cash or credit cards. But money is money and should have the same value whether it is in coins or cash. I had a friend who tried paying for her groceries in coins for a project in a sociology course i took a year back and people in the line behind her became impatient and a bit roudy, but the cashier still accepted the coins.
