How do I protect myself at rave parties?

If you need to protect yourself (and you're right on that one), they why go? There are some endeavors that are just plain dangerous. Is the amount of "fun" you'll have there worth the risk? Couldn't you have fun with some other activity that doesn't involve so much risk?

But if you're going to go no matter what:
1. don't drink too much
2. don't take any drugs
3. keep your drink in your hands and keep an eye on it in your hands, at ALL times.
4. don't let anyone else buy you a drink
5. drink lots of water, you can easily get dehydrated
6. don't let anyone single you out and go to any isolated part of the party away from others
7. make sure you have a good group of friends there and make sure they are watching out for you
8. never accept a ride from someone you don't know WELL.
9. know where all the exits are in case of an emergency

But wouldn't it just be wiser to not go?

Well if you have to go then be cautious. Be aware of people and things around you. Make sure you stay with your friend or friends. Only drink bottled water and reseal it after each sip. Before opening it squeeze the plastic bottle to see if any leaks out anywhere to indicate that someone has needled the plastic to inject a foreign substance. Don't take anything like drugs or candies or hors d'ouvres that may be offered to you. Don't welcome any advances from anyone. Dress conservatively and don't expose any parts of your body. Yes not much fun but it only takes one idiot with a syringe of knock out to inject you and you loose control. Know where the exits are. Don't go to the bathroom alone. Don't allow anyone to come between you and your friend they may be setting up a block so that your friend cannot see you or vice versa. It may not be you that needs protecting. There have been enough horror stories of different things happening that we must be extremely careful. If you have a large intimidating boyfriend it would have been nice to take him along but if unable to then take a can of mace and a taser. Have fun but be safe.
