A Buddhist term, yes, but applicable to all philosophies practiced by all people.
What would be the meaning of practical compassion?
And foolish compassion?
Could you please present scenarios which would describe this, in order to share?
Thanks! (some of the subjects discussed tonight have made me think of asking my question.) Grecia.

ts@green . . hmm . . Spirits of Joy and Love . . but are these, dependent upon the existence of God?
In the possibility of His absence would not these words flower with as much meaning in our own hearts, as well, alone???

Compassion is when you feel this awareness and sympathy of aomeone elses suffering and you want to help them. Fools compassion is when you fell compassionate for someone who may not deserve it. This may be because they are lying or because of their past. Hope i dont sound to strange :)

I would describe "fools compassion" as being "sucked in" emotionally to a situation that is upsetting to the person who considers himself as compassionate. When we become upset ourselves we are of little use to be helpful and can even compound the negative experience for the unfortunate person.
Appropriate compassion is recognizing if a person really is in need, not just acting out the "poor me" idea when they could actually do something constructive to help their situation. True compassion will always be limited to doing what is beneficial without jeopardizing ones well being or peace of mind.

Any word known or used by the self; especially in isolation; and without true knowledge of either the predecesior from which it came into being, or without the awareness of the true impact of itself in the self upon the person of any one; often leads to misunderstanding and misjudgements of the self; and the actions of the self.

I may be compassionate to a needy or a sick or a weak person; but it is not important that such a person is seeking compassion for his self; he may instead be seeking help for his self from me; but strictly out of that ability and knowledge of his self that I have the power and ability to help him.

He might be giving more weightage to that knowledge, power, and ability of the self within me to be able to guide my self to perform actions of compassion and be compassionate towards him; instead of merely to those physical actions and activities of compassion by myself which he can physically know as being performed towards his self by me; which in fact is fools compassion.

True compassion is possible only when the self ensures that it is able to perform actions and activities of compassion through the medium of; Spirits of joy and love within the self as the power of self; with feelings of humility, modesty, harmlessness, forebearence, and uprightness as the abilities of self in the self; and as that service of self by self to god; which the self knows as being capable and able to perform with absence of egoism, and non attachment and non identification of itself with the needy outside.

Man has to perform actions of joy, love and compassion; and any one action is truthfull only when; it is accompanied by the powers of the other two and is performed with that knowledge of that capability of self in self; which can free the self from not only the egoism and attachments of the self but also of the receiver of the compassion of ourselves;

all this is possible only when the self identifies it self with god instead and performs actions of joy, love or campassion as his that service to god which god had asked him to perform.
