Introduce someone else to the person, for example, "This is my friend Bob Smith," and leave it at that. The will probably respond by shaking hands with Bob Smith and giving Bob Smith their name. Then you got it.
But if you don't know someone named Bob Smith, you might be in trouble...

What I like to do is when there is someone else there, listen to their conversation and they would eventually say each other's name. If not, then I would go ahead and ask. More likely, they probably don't remember your name and they would completely understand.

Just ask them. As embarrassing as it can be, I've had to do this a few times face to face with people. A typical response I get is "Don't worry I'm bad with names too."

I simply say that I have a terrible memory and forgot their name. Or you can ask them how to spell their name.

Well, when I forget someone's name, I just ask how it's spelled or if it's spelled the normal way or some weird different way.

you should tell that person to put their real name for a screen name because you like it. then they might put it on with your advice (after facts) then youll know. or... you can also ask how fast they could type their name or write it and have a contest

I have a friend/sister who's expecting a baby and is working on naming her baby.
She is trying to pick a name her child is going to like when he/she is grown and not hate her for the name she picked.
She's decided on your name, you like your name don't you?
