Curiouser and curiouser - I looked in my copy and couldn't find the text on page 198 - either your question nor the response (puke).

In my copy, page 198 refers to hermione establishing the "Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare" "SPEW", but not the exact words from Ron.

I had heard that their was different versions of Harry Potter for different markets, even aware that the covers & titles were different in english speaking countries. I wouldn't have been at all surprised if the page numbering was slightly different. However, I am surprised that the text has apparently been altered in this way. (I have the australian "version").

How irritating that someone has been destructive and not respected the library book. A child scribbling in a children's book is reasonably predictable, but white-out?? Seems intentional and negative.

The imposter Mad Eye Moody (Barty Crouch Junior) confunded the Goblet of Fire using a Confundus charm. He made the Goblet think that there were FOUR school instead of THREE. He entered Harry into the fake fourth school so that the Goblet only had Harry as a choice from that school. Therefore, he knew Harry would be drawn, because Harry was the only entrant from this false school. I hope that makes sense. It is kind of confusing. And she is right about what chapter it is in!

From my copy of GoF, US edition, Chapter 13, p. 198:

'They sat down at the Gryffindor table and helped themselves to lamb chops and potatoes. Hermione began to eat so fast that Harry and Ron stared at her.

"Er--is this the new stand on elf rights?" said Ron. "You're going to make yourself puke instead?"

"No", said Hermione,....

The pagination differs depending on which publisher produced your book.

Please be sure to point this out to the library staff. Unfortuately, people due seem to want to "edit" library books.

"you're going to make yourself puke instead?"

is that all that's whited out. . it goes on to say - "'No,' said Hermione, with as much dignity . . ."
